One of the security sensors of the heater that indicates the presence of the flame on the burner. Provides an electrical circuit through the flame (a stream of ionized particles) on the heater case through the burner. In the case of sudden cessation of the gas supply or damping of the burner it gives the signal to shut off the water heater.
